*The Road Test Package includes a minimum of two hours including 75 minutes warm-up lesson, 15 minutes ICBC registration time prior to road test and usage school vehicle for road test.
If you wish to cancel a driving lesson, we require 48 hours’ notice otherwise a cancellation fee of $50.00 will be charged to reschedule. No shows on scheduled lessons will be a forfeit of the lesson.
Payment must be made prior to each driving lesson or road test session. There will be no refund for driving lessons or road test sessions that have taken place. If the student has pre-paid for driving lessons or a road test session, there will be no refund given in cases of insufficient notice of cancellation.
Lessons purchased for a student cannot be transferred to any other existing, past or future students.
Students must provide a valid BC Drivers License or equivalent before the first lesson. Students must carry their Drivers License at all times during their training.
There will be only the student and instructor allowed in the driver training vehicle for each lesson. We do not offer lessons in any other vehicle except Johnston’s Driving School.
Road Tests are to be booked by students directly through the ICBC website. Johnston’s Driving School does not provide the service on student’s behalf.

All lessons / packages purchased are final sale and non-transferable.
ICBC GUIDELINES FOR DRIVING INSTRUCTORS

Ensure that the following people are not allowed into a vehicle where a driving lesson is taking place:
Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19, people who are a close contact of a person who has tested positive for COVID-19, anyone who has traveled out of the country within the last 14 days, and anyone otherwise under order from public health to self-isolate.

Advise students to reschedule their lesson if you suspect they have any kind of flu-like symptoms before the start of lesson.

At the start and end of the lesson, consider having any conversations with the student outside of the vehicle, where physical distancing can be more easily maintained.
-
Ask students to wash or sanitize their hands before entering the vehicle, where possible. Provide the student with hand sanitizer before they enter the vehicle.
-
Ensure that physical distancing is maintained wherever possible throughout the lesson, including any required pre-trip inspections or for demonstrations of pre-trip activities or tasks.

Open windows whenever possible to increase fresh air ventilation while parked and driving, and ensure that the fresh air intake is open so that the air in the car is not being recirculated.

For services where physical distancing cannot be maintained and other control measures such as barriers cannot be used, masks should be worn to reduce the risk of transmission. Ensure that masks are used correctly.

Learners should be encouraged to wear masks to protect Instructors.
Inform learners if masks will be required for their lesson at the time they book the appointment. Post signage at the company website.

Provide masks for learners who have not brought their own.

Develop a cleaning and disinfecting procedure. Ensure high-touch surfaces such as the steering wheel, seat belts, driving controls, gear lever, windows, keys, seats and door handles are cleaned and disinfected between lessons. Consider allowing more time between lessons to ensure adequate time for cleaning the vehicle. Provide a means of disposal within the vehicle for cleaning supplies, wipes, and used masks.
Johnston's Driving School offers a comprehensive ICBC approved Graduated License defensive driving program GLP based on Smith System's time tested - 5 Keys to Space Cushion Driving. This program will help teach you to use your eyes effectively & understand the importance of making on-time adjustments in everyday traffic situations. Upon completion, the foundation will be set for a lifetime of "crash free" driving.
Our GLP package includes:

18 Hours of classroom instruction over the course of three Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m
Special Note: Due to COVID-19, the number of students in each GLP theory class is now being restricted to a max of 10 students to allow safe space between students in class

15 hours of in-car driving lessons with a GLP certified instructor plus the use of our car for the road test for a total of 16 Hours
-
Each level of training involves on-going assessments to give the student an objective evaluation to help them become a safe driver in future

Mock test evaluations before final road test

Upon successful completion of our GLP package we are authorized by ICBC to grant a 6-month reduction in the Road Test waiting.

The students must attend all three classroom sessions, and complete all 16 hours of behind the wheel instruction within one year from the date of registration to be qualified for the GLP certification

GLP in-class Theory Sessions:

It is mandatory to complete the three in-class sessions (three Saturdays from 9 am to 3 pm) with a GLP class instructor as a requirement for graduation

Students will be reminded about their on-coming GLP theory sessions 3 days in advance through email

Students are required to be in GLP in-class sessions 10 minutes prior to allotted start time

Because of COVID-19 the number of students in each GLP in-class sessions is now restricted to 10

Students coming for GLP in-class session will be pre-screened for any symptoms of COVID-19 at the building entrance by a JDS staff member

Students can bring their lunch boxes and drinks in the GLP class. No snacks will be provided by school
GLP in-car Driving Lessons:

After the GLP theory classes, students can book their individual driving lessons online through Johnston's Driving School website using Flexbooking system

Students who hold Class 7 Learners license must show their permits to instructor before each lesson

Students must have their attendance and progress report card regularly updated by driving instructor

Students must provide two phone numbers (one must be cell) to school at the time of registration

Johnston's Driving School requires a 48-hour notice prior to rescheduling or cancelling a driving lesson. If not met within the time lines then the student will be charged a $50 penalty to reschedule the lesson

The students may request to change their pick-up location 48 hours prior to the driving lesson. JDS reserves the right to deny pick-up locations
